Which is better: buying or renting reusable cups?

Purchasing reusable cups is only interesting from a financial and ecological point of view given enough circulation. In other words, your event should have multiple editions during the year or you should share your cups with other organizations or events.

If you wish to customize your cups, evidently you have to buy them. In this case, it is wise to create your design from a long-term perspective. So if you’re working with sponsors, we strongly advise you to make long term agreements.

Another possibility is the buy a certain amount of cups e.g. beer cups and to rent an extra capacity, e.g. wine cups. This strategy allows you to always ensure a sufficient capacity. We deliver the desired amount of cups at the right time and place. And you don’t have to worry about the storage afterwards either. Festicup offers reusable cups for all type of events: from your intimate garden party to a bigsize festival and everything in between.

How do I organise the collection of the cups, with or without a deposit?

Surely the loss of cups during your event is to be avoided at all cost. Your visitors are off course responsable to this end. However as organiser of the event we strongly advise you to inform your visitors repeatedly about what is expected from them. A clear communication is essential and is best started a significant amount of time ahead of your event. Your social media channels are a great way to let your visitors know about what is expected from them.
Until recently, it was unrealistic even thinking about using reusable cups without a deposit system. However we’re slowly noticing a shift in people’s mindset which makes it possible to consider working
without a deposit system. More and more visitors don’t feel right about leaving their cup behind on the ground. And we have to say, we’re more than happy about that!
If you choose to work without a deposit system, you must set up intensive collection operations on site. You can engage ‘ecoteams’ equipped with trolleys to scour the festivals grounds and collect the reusable cups. Aside from that, it’s wise to have fixed collection points spread across the terrain. Add a clear communication toward your visitors and success is guaranteed! The 2019 edition of Gladiolen Festival used 30 000 reusable cups, without a deposit system! A first timer and a great success!
Nevertheless, the deposit system is still widely applied when working with reusable cups. A cool reusable cup with a nifty design printed on, is often a wanted collectors item. Chances are you visitors will want to take home their cup as a souvenir. That is why it’s important to make sure you set your deposit high enough. We advise the following rule of thumb: 1 euro for regular types of cups and 3 euros for special cups (e.g. special beers). This way your deposit will confine the number of losses and in case a cup does get lost, the deposit will cover the price you paid for it.
To make things easier on your employees, the refund for the deposit can be a rounded amount, e.g. you charge 1,25 euros for the deposit and you refund your visitors 1 euro. The profit acquired from this strategy can contribute to the expenses you made for the cups and the washing solutions. Keep in mind though that you must provide enough exchange points to keep visitors satisfied.
For every 1000 visitors, you will have to engage one employee at the exchange point. The opening hours of the exchange point can best surpass those of the bar, so that every visitor will have the opportunity to exchange their cup and collect their deposit. For small-size events, it is also possible to have your employee(s) at the register manage the deposit return. Towards the end of the event, the sale of drinking tickets will slowly come to a halt and so they will have no problem taking on the extra task time-wise.
Many visitors will not want to wait in line to recover their deposit. To avoid queues at the exchange point, you can also offer your visitors the possibility to donate their deposit to a charity. A pipe construction at the exit of the festival grounds or on site collection of cups are great systems to create this opportunity.
Thanks to the deposit system, you don’t need to worry about visitors keeping their cup. The deposit they paid will cover your purchasing cost of the cup. And the souvenirs will only provide you with free advertisement!

How many reusable cups do I need?

We at Festicup are convinced that reusable cups are made to be reused. So we surely won’t advise you to provide a reusable cup for every consumption made during your event. However there are certain types of events where you won’t have the possibility to clean the cups on time to be reused again, for example during a football game. Beverage consumptions spikes intensely during short periods of time, and so in this case you will need to provide a cup for every consumption made.
The quantity of cups required depends strongly on the absolute maximum number of visitors you expect at a given moment, as well as on the number of different types of cups you wish to use. We suggest the following rule of thumb to calculate the amount of cups needed: when using one or maximum 2 different types of cups, multiply the number of expected visitors by 2,5; in case you want to use more than 2 different types of cups, multiply by 4.

Evidently there are other elements to consider when determining the right amount of reusable cups: the number of tapping installations, the number of of and the weather fo Evidently there are other elements to consider in determining the right amount of reusable cups you will need: the number of tapping installations, the possibilities for washing the cups, the programme of the event, the collection method for the cups, the number of peak periods of and the weather forecast. It speaks for itself that in case of an event where there are no possibilties to wash the cups, you will need to prodive more cups. Other elements to consider are the type of event and the quantity of beverage consumption. Ideally the beverage consumption of past year editions can be used to determine the amount of reusable cups needed. In the event of a first edition, we suggest using the following rule of thumb: in case of a ‘slow’ event (e.g. a reception) 2 or 3 cups per visitor will suffice, in case of a ‘fast’ event (e.g. festival) 7 or 9 cups per visitor.

But not to worry, our team at Festicup is here to help you!

What’s the best strategy to apply when using reusable cups during an event?

Every event has its own specific bottlenecks, so in reality every event will require a different strategy. Our colleagues at Festicup are delighted to help you determine the appropriate strategy for your event.
As a general rule, we always try to ensure an optimal use of the reusable cups during your event. This way we minimise the amount of cups you have to buy or rent. Thanks to our mobile washing solutions, the reusable cups can be cleaned in an efficient and hygienic fashion during your event. At the end of the event, we’ll pick up the cups - dirty or wet - and the mobile washing solution(s). The cups will then be cleaned in our own cleaning facility which uses an industrial cleaning and drying method. We’ll deliver your cups neatly repacked back to you, along with the necessary paperwork. Or we can store them in our warehouse until your next event.

Is it possible to come and pick-up my order myself?

When you buy our reusable cups, they are always delivered to the requested delivery address. This allows us to guarantee efficient processing. Only under exceptional circumstances can you pick-up your order at the Festicup warehouse. Please do keep in mind that an appointment has to be made up front with one of our employees

What’s the difference between polycarbonate (PC), copolyester Tritan® and polypropylene (PP)?

These plastic substances are the primary materials used to manufacture reusable cups. We at Festicup have chosen to work exclusively with cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester, notably for the following reasons.

Reusable cups that are made from PP have very limited design possibilities, which negatively impacts the drinking experience of your visitors. PP-cups are only available in various tap sizes, but only in a classic cup design. Furthermore these cups are never crystal clear and as means of compensation they are almost always provided with an all-around print in full colour. Unfortunately this adversely affects the recycling possibilities at the end of their lifespan.

A PP cup is flexible and thus almost impossible to break. Labtests have shown that a cup made from PP can be reused a maximum number of 125 times.

On the contrary reusable cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester have almost endless possibilities which translates into a nearly unlimited variety. Thanks to these primary materials, it is possible to replicate real glass. This way your visitors can have the same drinking experience they have in a bar at your event, in a safe and sustainable way.

Printing on these types of cups is almost always limited, which is beneficial to the recycling process and ensures that cups from polycarbonate and copolyester are 100% recyclable at the end of their lifespan! Even more so, thanks to their beautiful design, there is no need for an all-around print. Even a subtle customization is enough to give your cups that extra something special.

Labtests have shown that reusable cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester can be reused 500 to 1000 times, depending on factors such as intensity of use and washing method. Moreover our cups are unbreakable.

Is it possible to get some samples?

Yes off course! You can easily order sample material in our online store. The cost of the samples will be deducted from your total order amount in case you decide to place an order.

Can I visit the Festicup offices during opening hours?

Yes, we’d love to welcome you! However, we kindly ask you to make an appointment with one of our employees. Otherwise we can’t guarantee the right person will be there to help you along.
So just give us a little ring and we’ll see each other soon!

Which product do I use to clean my reusable cups?

We suggest using our cupcleaner to wash your reusable cups. This 100% natural probiotique and ecological detergent is based on EM-technology (Effective Microorganisms). It enhances the presence of benign microorganisms so they can suppress the activities of their malignant counterparts. Certainly when using a classic sink, our cupcleaner is indispensable. Thanks to its lack of taste and smell, you won’t have to rinse the cups and so they will be ready to use immediately after washing.

Our cupcleaner is always included when renting one of our mobile washing solutions!

Are the reusable cups dishwasher proof?

Our reusable cups can resist hot temperatures and thus they can be industrially washed. Important side note, industrial dishwashers, as well as our own mobile washing solutions, thoroughly wash the cups, but they don’t dry them. Heat is poorly absorbed by the plastic material from which the cups are made and therefore the cups don’t dry up easily. Fortunately at our cleaning center we have an innovative drying installation at our disposal that guarantees your cups will be 100% dry!
We strongly advise against putting the reusable cups in the dishwasher at home. These machines, and moreover the dishwasher tablets are far too aggressive. The material from which the cups are made won’t react well to these circumstances, especially after repeated use. Even more so, the drying process is too long which will result in calcification.

Does Festicup organise group purchases?

Group purchases are not available in our online store. However, if you’re interested, please let us know and we’ll gladly set one up for you.

You’re part of an organisation and you know of others who are also interested in buying reusable cups? Please contact us and we’ll examine the possibilities!

What is the expected lifespan of a reusable cup?

Reusable cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester are unbreakable. Labtests have shown they can be used 500 to 1000 times, depending on aspects such as intensity of use and washing method. Cups made from polypropylene on the other hand can only be used a mere 125 times. By choosing Festicups reusable cups, you’re making the one true sustainable choice!

Why does Festicup only work with cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester?

We at Festicup are convinced that drinks should be served in a sustainable way, no matter the type of event. The way you serve your drinks constitutes an important part of your visitor’s experience. Therefore it is crucial to do this in the most enjoyable way possible. This is why Festicup chooses to work with cups made from polycarbonate or copolyester. Thanks to these materials our cups look like real glass!

Our reusable cups are not the cheapest on the market. We at Festicup have opted explicitly for quality and sustainability, which results in a unique experience for your visitors!

Are reusable cups recyclable?

Yes, all our reusable cups are 100% recyclable. Just let us know when your reusable cups are worn out and we will come and collect them. For the moment they are remade into iPhone covers.

Are reusable cups really unbreakable?

Yes, most of our reusable cups are really unbreakable. They have passed severe testing before being commercialized. Only this way can we guarantee the highest quality of cups!

Is it possible to come and pick-up my order myself?

When you buy our reusable cups, they are always delivered to the requested delivery address. This allows us to guarantee efficient processing.

Only under exceptional circumstances can you pick-up your order at the Festicup warehouse. Please do keep in mind that an appointment has to be made up front with one of our employees.

Is it possible to get some samples?

Yes off course! You can easily order sample material in our online store. The cost of the samples will be deducted from your total order amount in case you decide to place an order.

Can Festicup clean my reusable cups?

Yes off course! Just let us know where to collect the cups or make an appointment and bring them to our warehouse yourself. Your cups will be industrially cleaned and we guarantee they will be 100% clean, 100% dry and neatly repacked!

Please do consider that if you don’t have storage boxes, we will have to charge you for the cardboard boxes we have to use to repack the cups.

What is the delivery delay?

Most of our reusable cups are directly available on stock. This means you will receive your cups in 1 to 3 days after placing your order.

For customized cups however, please consider a delivery delay of 10 to 15 working days after your approval of the digital sample print.

How are the reusable cups packed?

Our reusable cups are packed in cardboard boxes, with enough protection for transportation. We offer you the possibility to buy storage boxes and to have your reusable cups packed in these boxes.

Where are the reusable cups manufactured?

All of our cups are manufactured in European countries. This way we guarantee top quality while minimising our ecological footprint.

Does Festicup offer the possibility to buy storage boxes?

Yes, in our online store you can buy storage boxes. Depending on the type of cup, our storage boxes contain a certain number of cups. These quantities are indicated on the product specifications page.

We offer you the possibility to buy storage boxes and store the cups in them yourself or you can have one of our team members do it for you (extra charge).

What if I need my cups earlier than that?

In case you urgently need unprinted cups, we can make a speed delivery the same day you place your order, or we can consider you picking up your order in our warehouse yourself.

For customized cups, we always try to meet your deadline. We ask all our customers for a deadline and use this information to set up a flexible printing schedule. This gives us some leeway to prioritize urgent orders if necessary. That way we can guarantee that every one of our customers will receive their cups in time, even though they might have been a little late placing their order. Isn’t that just great?

How do I clean my reusable cups during my event?

Festicup offers you different kinds of mobile washing solutions. These machines posses an industrial washing capacity of 1500 up to 7500 cups per hour and per installation. Combine different machines to attain the desired capacity or to simplify the logistical processes during your event.

For small-size events, it is manageable to use a classic sink to wash the reusable cups. However the brushes in these sinks are made from rugged plastic which leave miniscule scratches on the cups. Evidently this shortens the lifespan of your reusable cups. In this case, we certainly advise you to use our cupcleaner when cleaning the cups.

What about the startup fee?

For each order, we charge a startup fee and printing costs. Our online store allows you to calculate these costs.

What is the delivery delay for customized cups?

The delivery delay for customized cups is 10 to 15 working days after your approval of the digital sample print.

In which format do i need to provide my design?

To ensure a high quality print, your design or logo must be in vector format. We also need the PMS colors (Pantone).

A vector file can be blown up or downsized an infinite amount of times without loss of quality. It is made up of lines, also called vectors, which allow the image to always remain sharp, no matter the size. Bitmap files, also called grid images on the other hand, don’t have this ability. These images are made out of pixels which turn blurry when enhanced past a certain point.

A vector file is characterized by a PDF, EPS or Al extension. Graphic design programs like Adobe Illustrator or CoralDraw allow you to vectorise your image, turning it into a vector file. Simply saving a JPEG file with a PDF, EPS or Al extension won’t do the trick.

Sounds like Chinese to you? No worries, we at Festicup are here to lend you a helping hand. Just send us your design or logo in the highest quality you have and we’ll do the rest. We may have to charge you a little extra, but we’ll inform you about this up front.

Is there a minimum amount of cups required for customization?

We do small as well as big print runs. Please do consider that printing costs will be higher for small print runs. The minimum amount of cups for customization can be found in our online store. If however you wish to order a smaller amount, please feel free to contact us and we’ll gladly send you a quotation.

Is there a limit to the number of colors I can use in my design?

The reusable cups can be printed on using up to 5 different colors. To ensure the desired outcome, it’s best to send us the PMS-numbers (Pantone colors).

You don’t have the PMS colors? No worries, Festicup will select the most suitable PMS colors for you.

Can I receive a sample print?

Yes, we always send you a digital sample print for approval before printing your order. The sample print will recap all necessary information, like printing format and PMS-colors.

We only make a real sample print under exceptional circumstances and at an extra charge, e.g. for orders of more than 100.000 cups.

Are their limits to the size of the design?

Each type of cup has its own specifications and printing possibilities. Moreover we also have to consider legal limitations, e.g. a certain distance to the drinking edge of the cup has to be respected.

Some cups offer the possibility to do an all-round print. This is called screenprinting. However we try to avoid the all-round print as much as possible, as it adversely affects the recycling process of the cups at the end of their lifespan.

The most common used printing technique is pad printing. This will result in the best quality print. It allows a surface of 42mm x 38mm to be printed on.

Using their expertise, our graphic designers will position your design in the best possible way on the cup of your choice. We always send you a digital sample print to approve before launching production of your order.

Why do I have to pay a deposit?

Surely we hope all of the cups you rent will be returned to us. But in case some of the cups do get lost, we have to charge you for the lost cups. The amount depends on the type of cup and can be found on the rental specifications page.

Within 14 days of your event, you will receive a return order, followed by a credit note or an additional invoice in case the charge for the lost cups exceeds the deposit you paid.

How can I temporarily enlarge my capacity?

Many organisations already have their own reusable cups, in most cases beer cups. If you’re looking to temporarily enlarge your array of cups with special types of cups for wine, cocktails… you’ve come to the right place!

Just let us know the type and quantity of cups you need and we’ll do the rest.

How will the reusable cups be delivered?

Rental cups are delivered in our plastic storage boxes. The number of cups in a single box depends on the type of cup.

At the end of your event, simply put the cups back in the boxes and we’ll come and pick them up.

Is it possible to come and pick-up my order myself?

Yes, rental cups can be picked up in our warehouse. Please do note that it is necessary to make an appointment for the pick-up. This way we can make sure your order is ready and one of our team members is present to help you. Your order has to be completely ready before the pick-up can happen.

Why does the online store automatically adjust the number of cups I want to order?

Depending on the type of cup, each box contains a certain number of cups. Our online store takes these quantities into account and will automatically adjust the number of cups you entered to the nearest quantity possible.

Can I clean the rented cups myself?

Unfortunately this is not possible. We have to ensure that the cups are 100% clean and dry for the next rental. For this reason we always take care of the final cleaning of rental cups ourselves.

The extra charge you have to pay is minimal considering the time you will save not having to wash and dry the reusable cups after your event. So in fact, it’s a win-win for all.

How many weeks in advance do I need to make my reservation?

Unfortunately we don’t have an exact answer for you. We do advise to make your reservation as soon as possible, so we can make sure the desired quantity of cups will be available.

Our peak period is during the summer. We suggest making your reservation 4 weeks in advance during this period.

Is it possible to buy a mobile washing solution?

Yes, we can build a mobile washing solution with the desired capacity.

Does Festicup supply transportation boxes for the reusable cups?

No, we only supply the necessary washing trays. It’s up to you to provide enough transportation boxes to transport the dirty and clean cups between the bar(s) and mobile washing solution(s).

Which types of connections do I need?

Each mobile washing solution has its own types of connections and specifications. The big mobile washing solutions offer a connection range of 25 meters. For the small washing solutions you have to provide this yourself.

Consult the technical datasheets.

When is the mobile washing solution delivered?

One of our team members will contact you the day before your event to make an appointment for the delivery of the mobile washing solution(s). We always try to consider your needs as much as possible.

What’s the difference between the various mobile washing solutions Festicup offers?

Our big mobile washing solutions are plug-and-play installations which are mounted on a trailer. They are available in different sizes and have different capacities. They all have the necessary provisions (electricity, water supply and drainage) as well as the necessary working space. Our big mobile washing solutions are delivered and installed by our team members.

Our small mobile washing solutions are industrial plug-and-play dishwashers. They can be easily incorporated into your bar. In this case you have to provide the necessary working space and provisions yourself.

How many people does it take to operate a mobile washing solution?

For our big mobile washing solutions, this depends on the capacity you want to attain, the minimum being 2 people. To have our big mobile washing solution run on full capacity, you need 4 to 6 people to operate the machine.

The small mobile washing solutions only require one person to operate them.

Can I pick-up the mobile washing solution(s) myself?

The big mobile washing solutions are always delivered and installed by one of our team members due to insurance matters and to guarantee a proper installation.

The small washing solutions on the other hand, can be picked-up in our warehouse.

How much room do I need to provide for the mobile washing solution(s)?

Each mobile washing solution has its own dimensions and specifications. Consult the technical datasheets.

Is the cupcleaner included in the rental price?

Yes, our cupcleaner is always included when renting one of our mobile washing solutions.

Is it possible to just rent one of your mobile washing solutions?

Sure it is! You don’t have to buy or rent our reusable cups to make use of our mobile washing solutions. Don’t forget to make your reservation in time!

How many months in advance do I need to make a reservation for the mobile washing solution(s)?

Our mobile washing solutions are very popular. We advise you to make your reservation 3 to 6 months prior to your event.

Do the mobile washing solutions also dry the cups?

No, the plastic material from which the cups are made don’t sufficiently absorb the heat from the machines to be able to dry in a proper manner. This makes the cups come out of the machine all wet. Unfortunately it’s not possible to build a mobile drying solution.

Is it possible to have members of the Festicup team operate the mobile washing solutions?

This is not a standard service we offer, but we can certainly check out the possibilities. Please do consider it’s not difficult to operate these machines. Any volunteer is fit to do the job!

What is the consumption rate of the mobile washing solutions?

Each mobile washing solution has its own consumption rate and specifications. Consult the technical datasheets.

How does Festicup clean the cups? Are they always 100% dry?

How do I deliver my dirty cups?

We ask our customers to deliver the cups in storage boxes. The boxes are also cleaned and dried after which the cleaned cups are placed back into the boxes.

What is the processing delay?

We kindly ask you to make your reservation as soon as possible so we can arrange the necessary planning and transportation. For quantities up to 10 000 cups, we advise 48 hours, for quantities of 10 000 cups and more, we suggest making your reservation 72 hours beforehand.

How are the dirty cups transported?

We at Festicup can take on the entire logistical process of your cups. Or you can bring your cups to our warehouse or cleaning center yourself. In this case, we kindly ask you to make an appointment.

What’s a social enterprise for customized work?

A social enterprise for customized work offers an employment to people who are not able to work in a normal working environment. The socio-economic aspect of this company coincides perfectly with the sustainable foundations of Festicup.

We’ll also provide you with some tips & tricks regarding the collection process of the cups during your event.

How much space do I need behind my bar?

Reusable cups take up more space than disposable plastic cups. You should take this into account when laying out the floor plan for your event.

Please consider the following example: a europallet (80x120 cm) can carry 50 000 disposable plastic cups. For stackable reusable cups this equals 5000 to 10 000 cups and for non-stackable reusable cups 1000 cups.

Can I store my reusable cups at the Festicup warehouse?

Sure you can! Storage prices start from € 0,75 per pallet per calendar day

How much space do I need to store my reusable cups

This strongly depends on the type of reusable cup. You can easily make the calculation by knowing the number of cups that fit inside a storage box. You can stack up to 16 storage boxes on one pallet.

To what extent is washing reusable cups sustainable?

At Festicup reusable cups are cleaned in a very sustainable way. Almost all of our washing solutions are equipped with a water and electricity recovery system. Moreover they only consume 0,02 to 0,04 liters of water per cup.

Where are the reusable cups manufactured?

All of our cups are manufactured in European countries. This way we guarantee top quality while minimising our ecological footprint.

Is your detergent ecologically sound?

Yes, our detergent is a 100% natural probiotique and ecological product based on EM-technology (Effective Microorganisms). It enhances the presence of benign micro-organisms so they can suppress the activities of their malignant counterparts.

Does Festicup recycle the cups at the end of their lifespan?

Yes, you can either drop-off your worn out cups at our warehouse or you can have them picked-up by one of our team members. We’ll make sure they are recycled in a proper manner. For the moment the cups are shredded into plastics granulates and then used to manufacture cases for smartphones.

Why is it better to use the reusable cups more than once during an event?

During most events, it perfectly possible to reuse the cups several times. And we very much like this way of working at Festicup! We arrive at your event with a minimal amount of cups, which also means a minimal amount of transport volume! Washing the cups at your event only consumes about 0,02 liters per cup. Seeing as the cups are reused immediately, no need to dry them so no energy consumption. That’s a lot of water and energy saved!

However there are some types of events where this strategy won’t work. During football games for example, where beverage consumption spikes intensely during short periods of time. This reframes the cups from being washed on time to be reused again.
